Cost-Effective Restorations

Dental crowns are custom, tooth-colored dental restorations that are designed to fit over and permanently adhere to a single tooth. Bridges are also custom made, natural-looking restorations, but they are made up of three or more dental crowns. Once the teeth have been prepped, impressions are taken to ensure that the crown or bridge fits perfectly and blends in flawlessly with the surrounding teeth. At your follow-up visit, your temporary restoration will be removed, and the permanent one will be placed.

Questions About Crowns

  • What are dental crowns and bridges used for?

Dental crowns and bridges can be used for a variety of different reasons, including:

    • Protecting teeth from further damage
    • Strengthening weak teeth
    • Holding damaged teeth together
    • Covering misshapen or discolored teeth
    • Replacing missing teeth (bridges)
  • How long do bridges and crowns last?

Dental crowns and bridges can usually last anywhere from 10 to 15 years before they need to be replaced. Sometimes dental restorations need to be replaced regardless of how well you take care of them, but there are a few things you can do to try to extend the lifespan of your bridge or crown. Practicing good oral hygiene at home and visiting our office regularly helps, as does avoiding chewing things like ice, hard candy, and popcorn kernels with your restorations and natural teeth. When it’s time to replace your bridge or crown, our team will be glad to assist!

  • Which restorative option should I choose?

If you only need one tooth covered by a restoration, dental crowns are typically the way to go, as dental bridges require the abutment teeth to be permanently modified before they can be placed. If you need a tooth replaced completely, dental bridges are an easy and efficient way to replace a gap in your smile, and they don’t require any recovery time like dental implants do. If you aren’t sure which option to go with, we recommend scheduling a consultation with our team so we can assess your smile and offer personalized advice.
