Will I need a crown after my root canal?

Until we see you, it is difficult to say if you will need a crown placed after your root canal. But in the majority of cases, if damage to the tooth is severe, we will need to protect the tooth with a dental crown.

Root canal treatment at Meadow Creek Family Dentistry becomes necessary when extensive decay or trauma reaches the interior portion of your tooth. This is the part of the tooth that contains pulp and nerve tissue that keeps your tooth healthy and alive. When decay penetrates this canal, you will likely experience acute pain, and it is necessary to perform a root canal to provide relief

We also need to remove the infection to save the rest of your tooth. In many cases, a tooth becomes severely compromised by infection and decay, leaving it exposed to further damage. A dental crown is necessary to protect the structure of your tooth and to provide a functional chewing surface.

If you are experiencing discomfort and believe you may need a root canal, please contact our Inman, SC dental office. We can arrange a consultation, and at that time, Dr. Hunt can give you a better idea if a dental crown will be necessary
