What do dental crowns do?
Dental crowns are one of the most versatile restorations we use at Meadow Creek Family Dentistry. The primary function of a crown is to protect and strengthen a tooth. If your tooth has been compromised by decay or periodontal disease, a dental crown will restore function and protect the tooth from further damage.
Since a dental crown is designed to completely surround your natural tooth, it has many uses:
- Stabilize a dental bridge
- Restore a dental implant
- Provide support for a tooth that has a large filling
- Correct cosmetic flaws like discolored, misshapen, or uneven teeth
Having a dental crown placed at our Inman, SC office usually requires two or three visits. First, Dr. Hunt needs to examine your teeth to make sure that a crown is an appropriate solution. Next, he prepares your tooth to receive the crown and ensure a perfect fit.
We then take an impression of your teeth, which we use to create a mold that is sent to a custom dental lab where trained technicians create the final crown to our exact specifications. Before you leave, we will fit you with a temporary crown to wear until your permanent crown is finished.
When we receive your new crown from the lab, we’ll have you return so Dr. Hunt can make any adjustments to ensure the crown fits properly and doesn’t inhibit your dental bite. You will leave our office with a beautiful restoration that blends seamlessly with your natural teeth.
We have extensive experience placing dental crowns and would welcome the opportunity to talk to you about your needs. Please contact our office to arrange a convenient consultation
