My dentures are loose. How can you help?
It’s not at all uncommon for removable dentures to start to loosen over time. This is usually the result of normal changes to your facial structure as you age. Also, when you lose teeth, the bone in your jaw starts to change shape. This can cause a denture that once fit well to become loose and uncomfortable.
At Meadow Creek Family Dentistry, we can recommend several options. The easiest and most affordable solution is to have the dentures relined at our office every few years. During this procedure, we take impressions of your gums and create a liner that fits inside your existing denture. Since the new liner matches the current size and shape of your gums, you should find that your dentures fit better.
If you’re interested in a more permanent solution, we can also talk to you about creating an implant-supported overdenture that’s secured with dental implants. Traditional removable dentures sit on top of the gum line; implant-supported overdentures snap in place on top of the implants for a secure and comfortable fit.
A milled bar implant-supported denture consists of a retention bar that’s customized to fit the line of your jaw. The bar is then anchored securely to the implant. We then snap the overdenture to the bar, which stabilizes the denture and prevents movement. Their design also causes this type of denture to support sagging facial and lip muscles, which results in a fuller, more youthful appearance.
