The professional team at Meadow Creek Family Dentistry wants you to enjoy the best possible oral health. But we're also aware of the positive effect that a beautiful smile can have on your self-confidence. That’s why we offer solutions like attractive, durable dental crowns and bridges that protect your oral health while enhancing your appearance.

Reasons to Use a Dental Crown

Dental crowns are a type of restoration that works like a protective jacket for a compromised tooth. When a tooth doesn’t function the way it’s meant to, it doesn’t just look unattractive. A damaged tooth also makes it difficult to eat and speak normally.

At Meadow Creek Family Dentistry, we use durable, zirconia crowns that are designed to protect the tooth from further damage and decay and restore its appearance and function.

In most cases, crowns are used to restore function to a damaged tooth. However, since crowns enclose the entire tooth, they can also be used for esthetic purposes. Some instances where we may recommend a crown are:

  • Repairing a tooth severely damaged by decay that cannot be repaired with a filling
  • Strengthening a tooth after a root canal
  • Improving the shape of uneven teeth
  • Correcting the appearance of severely stained teeth
  • Fixing gaps between teeth

What’s Involved with Getting a Crown

Our philosophy is that our patients should be actively involved in the direction of their dental treatment. We’ll present you with the reasons why a crown is needed, the benefits, and what’s involved. Then we’ll answer your questions and help you make a decision you’re comfortable with.

During your first appointment, your doctor starts by altering the shape of your natural tooth so your new crown fits properly. Next, we’ll make a mold using an impression of the prepared tooth.

The mold will then be sent to a dental lab where your customized crown is created. When we receive the finished crown, we’ll have you return to our office and we'll carefully adjust it for proper fit and bite. Finally, the crown is cemented onto your tooth.

With proper care and routine check-ups, your crown should last anywhere from 5 to 15 years.

Dental Bridges Restore Your Smile

We know that missing teeth can be inconvenient and embarrassing. But did you know that leaving a gap in your smile can also affect your other teeth? When you lose a tooth and don’t replace it, your adjacent teeth naturally begin to drift toward the empty space. A dental bridge acts as a placeholder to fill the gap and prevent surrounding teeth from moving.

The most common type of bridge is the fixed bridge. Fixed bridges literally “bridge the gap” in your smile by suspending an artificial tooth between two adjacent teeth using specialized crowns. The advantage of a fixed bridge is that it is stable, looks natural, and can last a very long time with the proper preventive care.

When creating your customized dental bridge, Dr. Hunt and Dr. Caldwell take all the time needed to make sure the bridge we create for you restores your ability to eat, smile, and speak again with confidence.
